Greetings!
A new Orthodox Christian group has formed on the Surf Coast (VIC, Australia).
We are reaching out to serious, like-minded Orthodox Christians in the region to join us in a dedicated new group. Our focus is entirely on living an Orthodox Christian way of life — The Way (Acts 9:2) — focusing our activities on fellowship, Scripture, prayer, reading Orthodox literature and early Christian texts, and being attuned to social issues affecting our community. We have no attraction to divisive theological disputes, foreign agendas, geo-political issues, fundamentalism, and intolerance towards those who identify differently to us.
Anyone attuned to philanthropy and social ministry is especially sought and encouraged to reach out. Our Orthodox vision is at its very core oriented towards helping the needy and disadvantaged.
Prospective meetings are projected to take place at the Torquay Community House (pending sufficient numbers) or at a residential address to be decided. In the lead up to this, we are doing meet and greets in public venues in Torquay and if necessary other towns on the Surf Coast. If you are in isolated areas, or are feeling isolated, we want to meet you.
Our goal is to secure the commitment of a minimum of 15 people in order to allow for a canonical Orthodox priest (belonging to the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese) to celebrate Divine Liturgy for us at a suitable venue.
-
Please note that we are not formally (canonically) a part of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, however our activities are being supervised by clergy of the Archdiocese who report to His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios. It is our prayerful hope that this initiative will act as the precursor of a future mission under the care of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia/NZ devoted to English-language Orthodoxy for all Australians on the Surf Coast.
